With the newest kid on the GenAI block, DeepSeek, the launch of which caused an industry-wide disruption; the conversation I had a few Fridays ago at our TLA group techleaders.net, the agenda being "All things GenAI" comes into focus.
Our moderator @Glenn at one point enquired "How intelligent is GenAI"?
That question kept lingering in my mind even after the meeting. How smart is GenAI? I have been reading the biography of Elon Musk by Walter Isaacson and something from that book came to my mind.
Elon's SpaceX and the mighty Boeing Corp were awarded contracts by NASA to fly to the International Space Station at the same time. While SpaceX has made multiple trips, Boeing until recently was struggling in the trial phase in spite of being at least 10 times larger than SpaceX in scale and resources.
To me Boeing Corp is GenAI and Elon's SpaceX is Genuine Intelligence [generated vs genuine intelligence].
Like Boeing GenAI is the vast knowledge of conventional wisdom at your disposal in natural language, readily consumable by humans whereas Elon is a disruptor, an iconoclast, exhibiting the power of dissent against conventional wisdom which is genuine intelligence.
I understand that my argument is more philosophical than technical :-) but please feel free to chime in with your thoughts in the comments section.
Good Day and Good Luck
